Our Beliefs
We believe in and worship the triune God of the Scriptures; one God subsisting in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as confessed in the ancient creeds of the church: The Apostles’ Creed, Nicene Creed, and Athanasian Creed. The Father is our Creator, the Son our Redeemer and the Holy Spirit our Sanctifier or Renewer (2 Cor. 13:14).
We believe it to be God’s will for our local church to be an instrument of Biblical and confessional leadership, as well as preserving sound doctrine and life (1 Tim. 4:16; Rom. 16:17).
We seek to affirm our belief in the Word of God and the historic Reformed faith as expressed in the three forms of unity in the URCNA – Belgic Confession, Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort.

Our History

The nation was deep within the great depression. Challenges surrounded the lives of the people in Wayne, a small town made up of a seasonal riverfront community, a newly formed lake community, powder works and brick manufacturers, and at its core a network of active farms. A place far different from the one we see today. According to the 1930 United States Census, only 4,469 people claimed Wayne as their hometown. But within this town, nestled in the Valley between the recently established Packanack Lake community and the bustle of Paterson lay a patchwork of farms owned and run by hardworking families. A handful of these Christian families banded together, and on March 30, 1933, they established a new church in the community. Preakness Valley United Reformed Church began as The Christian Reformed Church at Preakness in 1933 in Wayne Township’s rural countryside....
